This is a collection of stories about being lost, and being found. They are myths retold through the lens of a new century. Here you’ll find a koi-girl and her grandfather, living in a stream in the mountains of Tennessee, waiting to become more. There are a pair of bickering celestials in a dive bar that exists in any city in the world, at any given time. A guardian of the moon, out of a job, and trying to care for his daughter the best he can on the streets of Flint Michigan. Angels, fairies, vampires, and junkies fill these pages, but most of all, magic.
Los Angeles, 1983. Trace Dellon knows exactly what he wants: the white heat of the spotlight. When his band Black Light is offered a record deal, Trace grabs for it. He will do anything to make it. Bass player Asia Heyes knows what he wants, too. It’s not fame or the adoration of groupies. It’s Trace. It’s always been Trace. Though it’s been unspoken between them, Trace’s other lovers—his audience—push Asia aside. With the record contract, Albrecht Christian comes into their lives. He has everything but what he needs to live: the energy that runs just under Trace’s skin. When everything crashes with a bullet, they all learn the truth. Rock and roll, like magic, requires both love and sacrifice.
“Once the moon was a beautiful woman who lived in a land of starlight.”
So begins this trilogy of short stories. They are about being lost and being found. They are myths retold through the lens of the new century. In "Phase" the moon was once a beautiful woman whose daughter wanders the streets of a dying industrial town in the mid-west. "Scales" is about a fish who turns into a girl to find true love, and "Dust" is the story of Tinkerbell after the pixie dust is all gone.
